Brent Mitchell

“The man can write songs like nobody’s business. Mitchell is any killer Americana superstar you can think of. He is Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Levon Helm, John Hiatt, Jay Farrar…  I found myself taking the long way home with extra turns and roundabouts just to hear his newest CD from start to finish.”

— Paddy Finneran, Racine Journal Times

“Brent is a songwriter’s songwriter.”

— Alex Whitmore

“Mitchell...the Texas scribe..."

— John Muzyka, Dallas Morning News

“Just when I thought I was starting to lose faith in this music scene, somebody had to come along and make me care again....There is power in his words and in his playing..."

— Tom Geddie, Buddy Magazine

Brent has played solo and with bands all over the US and beyond, and shared the stage with a number of well-known Americana, country, blues and folk acts over the years.

He’s recorded six CDs, from which a few songs have been used in movie soundtracks, and is recording a new one right now with a more stripped-down flavor than his previous ones –somewhat closer to the solo live performances he has become better known for.

In the 90s, Brent bounced through a number of management deals in Nashville and wrote some songs in Music Row publishing houses. Dissillusioned with the shallow song-factory scene,  he moved back to Texas where he recorded two CDs and enjoyed radio play and notoriety throughout the state with the Brent Mitchell Band until he moved to England. There he recorded a solo CD and played with the blues band Straight Eight. After three years in the UK, he moved to Wisconsin, recorded a self-titled CD and another with the Brent Mitchell Trio. During that time, he also completed a master's degree in theology at Northwestern, began showing his visual art, and became Poet Laureate of the city of Kenosha.  With his new, soon-to-be-released CD, he returns to his first vocation as a singer, songwriter, guitar player, and performer, playing house concerts, listening rooms, and concert venues.

As always, he pulls his stories and songs from a storied life of wandering America's highways as a kid, living and working on a cattle ranch in Texas, wandering through Mexico, England, and most recently, Spain.
